Are you passionate about large animal pharmacology and have knowledge and experience within the cardiometabolic space? Then please read further! We are seeking a talented senior scientist to be part of Novo Nordisk and participate in changing the quality of life for millions of people with cardiometabolic diseases. The position You will be an in vivo pharmacologist participating actively in cross-functional drug discovery project teams. The role entails the design and planning of in vivo pharmacology studies and other project team activities related to the identification and progression of new drug targets. Mentoring and supervision of technical/junior staff is an integral part of the job. You will join a global team of highly skilled professionals and you will work with CROs and academic collaborators to provide project teams with critical data and support. Your responsibilities will include: Participating actively in the identification and/or progression of new cardiometabolic drug candidates. Designing and conducting key experiments to validate human relevance and explore pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, and mode of action, both internally and externally always applying the highest scientific standards and assessing available translational tools. Developing and implementing new models, methods, and technologies for in vivo/ex vivo testing of biological activity of cardiometabolic drug candidates. This may require hands-on work in the animal facility. Writing protocols, analyse and interpret data, keep records, report, and communicate results. Collaborating with internal stakeholders within a matrix environment as well as external scientific advisors and academic centres of expertise. Qualifications You hold a Ph.D. within the cardiometabolic field and have a minimum of 1-3 years of post-graduate experience from industry or academia. The ideal candidate has: Great skills in establishing, optimizing, validating, and running in vivo pharmacology studies in large animals. Experience with translational aspects of the model(s) applied and knowledge/skills with optimal use and handling of data and/or use of in silico models will be highly valued. Industry experience, e.g., pharma R&D and/or relevant CROs, is considered a great advantage. In addition to your scientific profile, you are a dedicated, open-minded, and innovative team player with good collaboration and problem-solving skills, highly proficient in spoken and written English. About the department Integrated Physiology Research is a VP area encompassing all in vivo pharmacology departments in the cardiometabolic space in the research part of Novo Nordisk. As part of Novo Nordisk’s strategy within cardiometabolic diseases, this VP area is focused on target identification, validation, and deep pre-clinical characterisation of novel treatment options for obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, liver disease, and renal disease. In close collaboration with our in vitro colleagues, we strive to identify and mature pharmaceutical approaches that will benefit patients living with cardiometabolic disease. We establish, validate, and use in vivo models in rodents (mice and rats) and large animals (e.g. pigs, dogs, and non-human primates) and perform pharmacokinetic, pharmacodynamic, and mode-of-action studies to characterize potential new drug candidates. Experimental work is carried out by technical staff and scientists as well as outsourced as contract research.
