Role DescriptionPrincipal Scientist – Drug Metabolism & PharmacokineticsCan you take the scientific lead within PK/PD and set our future standards ? We are recruiting a Principal Scientist who has a passion for PK/PD and modeling & simulation. You will be a crucial member in cross-functional project teams as responsible for DMPK and PK/PD, providing projects with understanding of quantitative relationships between drug exposure, target engagement and downstream biomarker changes from early target selection to candidate drug selection. You will strongly influence the PK/PD strategy development across Research and drive initiatives to further strengthen modeling & simulation expertise. In this role, you will interact with different disciplines such as chemistry, biology, toxicology, pharmaceutical sciences and clinical pharmacology. Ensure drive and timely progression in early research projectsAs Principal Scientist you will directly impact research projects with your scientific knowledge enabling timely progression based on data-driven decisions. At the same time, you will get the opportunity to influence the departmental support to research projects through continuous scientific development within DMPK and leading the PK/PD discipline with a clear focus on implementation and execution of the strategy. In this, you will be a key driver in ensuring knowledge sharing within the department as well as across the global organization. Your primary tasks will be to:• Take on a DMPK lead role in drug discovery projects, representing the discipline as a whole• Deliver understanding of the correlation between in-vitro and in-vivo ADME properties, evaluate toxicokinetics and calculate safety margins as well as drug-drug interaction risk assessments to project teams • Establish quantitative relationships between drug exposure, target engagement and downstream biomarker changes in order to predict human therapeutic exposure/dose. • Evaluate new targets from a PK/PD perspective based on integration of all available data sources in a quantitative manner• Implement and continuously develop, together with biology, the preclinical and translational PK/PD strategy in drug discovery projects from target validation to drug candidate selection• Work with clinical pharmacologists and other bioscientists to ensure forward and back-translation of PK and PK/PD models in the projects As a Principal Scientist you are furthermore expected to provide scientific leadership and mentorship for less experienced scientists within you discipline, and to work collaboratively within DMPK as well as cross-functionally with other disciplines. You will also be expected to give input on a strategic level and show an external presence at scientific meeting when relevant.Extensive experience within PK/PD, modeling & simulationYou have a Ph.D. within chemistry, pharmaceutical sciences, pharmacology or a related field backed by +10 years of industrial experience that has provided you with a broad knowledge within PK/PD, DMPK and drug discovery in general. In addition to this, you have expert working expertise within: • PK/PD model development and human dose projections in an early drug discovery setting• Physiological and pharmacological understanding to facilitate collaborations with other functions• Hands-on experience of PK/PD software and ability to build and implement bespoke models (e.g., Win-Nonlin, NONMEM, R, MATLAB etc) • Small molecules and/or monoclonal antibodies and preferably also additional drug modalities To succeed, you must have a strong research focus, scientific curiosity and you are not afraid of making deci-sions to keep up the momentum in your projects.
