As your reporting team, you have ambitious teams within Mechanics and Testing, Control Systems, System Engineering, Project Office and Regulatory Affairs. The office location is the European company headquarters in Hobro, Denmark.

your responsibilities In the position, you have a strategic role and the responsibility to lead, manage and develop the Technology and Product Development function consisting of four managers with a total of 45 employees in the report.
As Director of Technology & Product Development, you lead the development of long-term strategic plans for the Technology and Product Development Department. Further, you oversee the technologies and products we use to ensure a department performing efficiently across functions to support company goals.
You are responsible for bringing in the technology and processes we need to scale up our capacity to an ambitious level. This includes identifying technology improvement and product development opportunities that fit into the overall strategy of Ballard. Further, you will ensure that KPIs and targets for the function are achieved. In short, you will:
● Manage and direct the technology and product development in Ballard Europe
● Develop long-term strategic plans for technology and product development
● As an integrated part of the senior management, work closely with the Regional Leadership Team (Denmark/Europe) and the Global Technology Management Team
● Oversee all processes related to technology and product development
● Identify business and technology opportunities compatible with the overall strategy of Ballard and seek to maximize the benefit of these opportunities
● Lead negotiations with suppliers of technology and related services
● Ensure optimization and establishment of metrics, guidelines, and standards to evaluate and identify improvement opportunities
● Ensure KPIs and targets are achieved within the overall department of technology and product development, including financial targets.
● Ensure reviews, analyses and evaluation of business procedures as well as reporting to Canada regarding the business in Hobro
Your qualifications :
In order to succeed as Director of Technology & Product Development, you have senior leadership experience and a strong track record from working in a global matrix organization. Further, you have worked with best-in-class technology standards from well-established international companies. You could be in a similar position within a comparable or similar industry. Alternatively, you are currently in a comparable position with a smaller scope. The key is that you have the passion and drive to implement technologies and methods to help us scale up our business significantly.
In short, you have:
● 10+ years of experience in technology leadership
● 5+ years of senior management experience and strong leadership skills
● A Master Degree in Engineering. Preferably combined with some leadership development and executive courses.
● International experience from working in a global and complex matrix organization
● A strong track record in technology and product development
● Experience from the fuel-cell industry, hydrogen sector, mobility industries (automotive, commercial, marine) or similar stationary power generation would be of advantage
● An ability to grasp, apply and oversee DFMEA/PFMEA, Plan for Every Part, Verification Testing, Validation Testing, and APQP concepts to Ballard projects
● Experience working with Smart Engineering
● Previous experience with scaling up a technology and product development function – be aware that it is a journey
